Type 2 diabetes is the most common form, occurs when your body no longer responds to or stops making insulin.
Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease, happens when the immune system destroys the body's insulin producing cell. People with type 1 require insulin injections daily to stay alive.
Diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors. However, being overweight and eating too many calories (and candy has a lot of them) does increase your risk for developing type 2 diabetes
