11-year-old girl loses both legs while playing on train tracks

An 11-year-old Houston-area girl lost one leg and seriously injured the other when she was run over by a train. Doctors said they were unable to save either leg and both had to be amputed.

Giselle Marroquin was playing with some friends on tracks behind their homes in a neighborhood east of Houston late Friday afternoon when a Union Pacific freight train ran over her legs.

Lt. John Legg with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department said a group of five children would stand on the tracks, wait for trains to pass, then grab the side of the train and drag their feet behind them. Legg said the girl slipped and was caught under the train.

"The first thing that goes through your mind is - oh my God," said Vasquez.

Vasquez and several others worked quickly to stop the bleeding. Giselle's left leg was severed, and her other leg was badly mangled. She was taken by helicopter to the Texas Medical Center.
Alex Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, said Saturday the girl was in critical condition.

Neighbors said that the children were able to get into the railway area through a home without a backyard fence. But they also said that even if the home was fenced in, that may not have prevented this accident.

"Most kids think they are invincible. They don't really realize the dangers that are out there," said Vasquez.

The railroad is conducting an investigation. The speed limit on the track in the area where the accident occurred is 10 mph. Officials said the girl and some of her friends had successfully ridden a train earlier, but on their second attempt, she slipped.

MOre Cash in your pocket

These are the guidelines on cutting your expenses and saving on taxes are guaranteed to put money in your pocket and your savings accounts.

1. Get your spending under control by using a free online budgeting Web site, such as Mint.com. This secure site tracks your checking, credit-card and investment accounts and offers money-saving tips, such as where you can cut costs or get a better rate on your credit card. Other free sites, including Wesabe and Geezeo, offer similar budgeting tools, but focus more on their online communities where users share strategies.

2. Set up a flexible spending account to help pay for medical expenses. If your employer offers this benefit, you can stash pretax dollars in the account and use the money to pay for out-of-pocket bills, including physician co-payments, prescription drugs, eyeglasses and braces for the kids' teeth. You can even spend the money on over-the-counter medications, such as antacids and pain relievers.

3. File a new Form W-4. If you got a tax refund for 2008, adjusting your withholding will fatten your paycheck for 2009.

4. Raise your insurance deductibles. Increasing the deductible on your car insurance from $250 to $1,000 can save up to 15% on your premiums -- or about $125 per year on an average premium of $829. Upping the deductible on your homeowners policy can slice your rate by about 25%, or $191 on an average premium of $764.

5. Cut the cost of credit. If you tend to carry a monthly credit-card balance, go with a low-interest-rate card, such as Wells Fargo's Prime Rate card, with a 5% interest rate and $19 annual fee. For gasoline or travel perks, try the BP Visa card or Simmons First Visa Platinum Travel Rewards card.

6. Open an online savings account, such as the one at www.fnbodirect.com, which was recently paying 3.25%, or about $100 a year on a $3,000 deposit. You can open the account with just $1, and there are no monthly fees or minimum-balance requirements.

7. Bump up your 401(k) contributions. Already have an emergency stash? With stocks on sale, now is a great time to build or rebuild your retirement kitty.

Should A Christian Drink?

Should a Christian drink alcoholic beverage? The answer sure is "NO". There are a lot of things they shouldn't do. I will list some as I go. We should have charity for alcoholics. We dont know why they turned to drink. There may be some reason why they try to drown their troubles. MOre than we Christians think. There are so many kind ofdrinkers. Some are just once in a while. Some are born in drinking homes, then for others it's the style. But alcohol is very bad indeed, no matter how it used. For it's the devil's worshop and in the end they're bound to lose.Still alcohol is here to stay. There isnt much that we can do.And ask the GOd to see them through.

There are a lot of things that Christians shouldnt do.Especially to excess.Like eating and pleasures and even in their dress.I dont think a Christian should ever touch a drop. For if we ever start to drink,we just want more and more.Remember what Solomon said,in Proverbs 23.Look not upon the wine when it is red,it will be a curse to thee. Yes it is against all Bible teachings. We are warned by Christ and Paul.and in many other places in GOd's word I cant remember all. Still we should help our fellow man,if he falls, lets help him up.Christians should be very kind to folks. They cant refuse the cup.For it CHrist comes in their life. It's beautiful to see,for by HIs great celestial power, from drink they will be free.

So a christian should be careful,in the kind of life he leads.Be to others an example, for that may be the help they need. For the church hearthrob of our nation.Without the church our land would fall.God might let some power destroy it.Then freedoms gone beyond recall.so lets not destroy the church with liquor,it should be a house of prayer. The church is our God's temple. So lets show hm we really care.Alcohol should never enter through GOd's church sacred door. It's the evil clothed in scarlet and corruption nothing more.A christian should be temperate in all things from day to day.

Talk to Jesus

Buffy have two boys.Hubby been enjoying watching them come to the church every Sunday.Sometimes she had a problem with her boys specially the youngest.Of course they are kids, but the earlier the better they know what God and how church is important. Her youngest boy did not come to church last Sunday instead stay at home with his dad.So Buffy told him,"YOU NEED TO TALK TO JESUS". THis is been BUffy's line eversince her boys dont come to church.Im proud of her eldest boy Austen. He is so smart and matured enough for things like how church is important. He is 10 yrs old.
