Rodeo Houston 2009

Welcome to the word’s largest livestock exhibition and the world’s largest Rodeo event! The 2009 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo kicks off March 3-22, and is quickly approaching over 2 million in attendance – requiring 19,000 volunteers! Going twenty days strong, Rodeo Houston is held at Reliant Park, and features bull riding, parades, carnivals, BBQ, wine tasting competitions, and loads of shopping! The Houston Livestock and Rodeo will feature Cattle auctions and cattle judging. Traditional trail rides, which start in different areas of Texas and finish in Houston, precede the rodeo. As a long standing rodeo tradition, March 16th has been deemed as Go Texan Day, where Houstonians and visitors alike are expected to don their best cowboy digs. Another tradition is the Rodeo Parade that kicks off the event. And check out the parade stats: 15 trail riders, 20 floats, 15 commercial wagons, 15 university and high school marching bands, dignitaries on horseback, and lots of balloons, all heading down Memorial into Texas avenue! One of the headlining Rodeo events is the super popular Calf Scramble, featuring 14 calves and 28 students trying to harness them and place them in the winners square. Students care for and prepare their prize calves, and the winner returns the following year with a $250 bonus! Most notable in Rodeo Houston are the celebs and concert performances in Stand-Up, Rock, Tejano, Blues, and Hiphop. In fact, the rodeo has drawn the world’s biggest music legends – does Elvis Presley ring a bell? Yup, he was a Houston Rodeo Performer! And 2009 will not disappoint. Kicking off the event is country superstar Tim McGraw, and set to perform are Faith Hill, Rascal Flats, and tween superstar Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana, making Houston Rodeo Tickets a serious must have! Join the party, and let’s Rodeo, Houston!

Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

Im ready for the "RODEO" 2008...

No doubt about it if you live in Houston, you must see the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo at least once. If you've seen rodeos elsewhere, then you're in for an eye-opening extravaganza, as this is definitely one of the world's largest. If you've never seen a rodeo before, be prepared to pick your jaw up from the floor. A good time for all.The rodeo is one of the reasons that I think, March is the best time to have your visitors in from out of town. Not only will many of them be in love with our winter weather (or lack thereof), you'll have a great time watching them watch people at this annual gathering of folks who call Texas home.

I been in Texas for two years, have never seen so many cowboy hats in one place at one time.
Let you think, however, that this rodeo is all about getting sawdust kicked in your face while surrounded by the smell of livestock, think again. How many can say they saw Tim McGraw & Cheer live in-concert in the Astrodome? OK, so I'm aging myself there,ha ha but the point is that Houston's Rodeo brings in the biggest stars, and not all are country singers. Last year was the best Rodeo ever for me. I seen Gretchen Wilson live who sing "REDNECK WOMAN".Also the Bull riding contest, calf scramble, saddle bronic riding contest and more.Year 2006 was my first RODEO two weeks before I arrived here in US.I dont have an idea about the RODEO is! My husband told me that you willl enjoy this. And it's true...it's fun,scarry..... this year is my 3rd Rodeo...and Im so excited.....Im not a "COWGIRL"...ha ha ha ha

In addition to hearing the stars come out at night (or during family-friendly matinees), you'll be treated to the frankly awesome talents of cowfolk as they exert more energy in a few minutes than most of us do in a week. After you've watched one of those athletes ride a bull, go and see the critters up-close and personal in the judging pens you'll gain a new perspective on the cowboy's mind. The whole point to this event is not just to impress the visitors. The HSLR is a non-profit organization that contributes literally millions of dollars annually to scholarships and research. In 2000, there were more than 1,400 kids in school on HSLR-sponsored scholarships.
A variety of events The Livestock (or Fat Stock, as it used to be called) Show is where you'll see youngsters leading gargantuan animals through the halls in hopes of receiving coveted ribbons and prizes. If your kids like looking at bunnies, chickens, goats, cows and more, they'll be delighted in the Livestock Show. Don't miss the Pig Races!

Other features of the event are shows by jugglers, magicians and demonstrations of crafts such as spinning and weaving. The carnival is a lot like the ones that most folks have seen set up in grocery store parking lots, but of course, on a much grander scale.

To enjoy the festivities to the fullest, consider springing for some western wear this may be the one time that you'll feel left out if there' s not a hat on your head and boots on your feet!
